Garage Door Cables & Springs

Open and close safely!

The garage door cables and tension springs are what allows a garage door to open and close safely. If one is not functioning, the other will likely stop working as well. Garage door springs do most of the heavy lifting, and over time they will need replacing. Usually the tension springs break first and is followed by the cables. If these break, your garage door will close really fast and it is best to not park your car in the garage because the heavy garage door can crush anything below.

When opening the garage door, the springs unwind and the tension lifts the door as it turns the shaft. Meanwhile, the cable drums turns and wraps the cables around the grooves. When the door is lowered, the cables will then unwind and the springs will become unwound, restoring their full tension. Because of the dynamic and codependency nature of the cables and springs, it is important for them both to be working perfectly.
